ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS The X-ray spectrum of LSI+61 ◦ 303
نویسندگان
چکیده
It had been proposed earlier that the hard X-ray and gamma-ray radiation of the Be/X-ray system LSI +61 • 303 could be due to inverse Compton scattering of optical photons from the Be star by the same electron population which also produces the radio emission. Recently , Apparao (2001) has calculated this inverse Comp-ton emission in more detail, and predicted that the X-ray spectrum should show a break at around 20 keV. We investigated archival RXTE data, but do not find such a break in the 2–25 keV range. The implications of this finding are shortly discussed.

Frontiers of Astrophysics -workshop Summary 1
We summarize recent results presented in the astrophysics session during a conference on \Frontiers of Contemporary Physics". We will discuss three main elds (High-Energy Astrophysics, Relativistic Astrophysics, and Cosmology), where Astrophysicists are pushing the limits of our knowledge of the physics of the universe to new frontiers. Since the highlights of early 1997 were the rst detection ...
متن کاملEvidence for long-term Gamma-ray and X-ray variability from the unidentified TeV source HESS J0632+057
HESS J0632+057 is one of only two unidentified very-high-energy gamma-ray sources which appear to be point-like within experimental resolution. It is possibly associated with the massive Be star MWC 148 and has been suggested to resemble known TeV binary systems like LS I +61 303 or LS 5039. HESS J0632+057 was observed by VERITAS for 31 hours in 2006, 2008 and 2009. During these observations, n...

متن کاملSwift X-ray and Uv Monitoring of the Classical Nova V458 Vul (nova Vul 2007)
We describe the highly variable X-ray and UV emission of V458Vul (Nova Vul 2007), observed by Swift between 1 and 422 days after outburst. Initially bright only in the UV, V458Vul became a variable hard X-ray source due to optically thin thermal emission at kT = 0.64 keV with an X-ray band unabsorbed luminosity of 2.3×10 erg s during days 71-140. The X-ray spectrum at this time requires a low F...
متن کاملThe CHANDRA HETGS X-ray Grating Spectrum of η Carinae
η Carinae may be the most massive and luminous star in the Galaxy and is suspected to be a massive, colliding wind binary system. The CHANDRA X-ray observatory has obtained a calibrated, high-resolution X-ray spectrum of the star uncontaminated by the nearby extended soft X-ray emisssion. Our 89 ksec CHANDRA observation with the High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (HETGS) shows that t...
